Today we are having Braden's big party for his birthday. It's pirate themed and boy, the stuff that B has put together is CU----UTE! I'll put up pics later, but to wet your appetite, she made a treasure chest cake which looks amazing(!)...a pirate ship, complete with mast and pirate flag...and a game the kids will do where they "walk the plank". She has done such cute things with the kids birthday parties, but the last two she has really stepped up her game so much that I can't wait to see how she will one-up herself in her next encore. Unfortunately, a bunch of people backed out of the party at the last moment, which totally stinks because of the all the money we put into this with drinks, food, goodie bags for kids, etc...but we're not going to have a bad time. We're going to do it up right and go out with a bang tonight! Pray for rain to stay away!
To give B a few minutes of peace before the chaos tonight, I took J, A, and Braden to the batting cages by my work. I let each of the kids do as many times in the cage as they wanted. Braden did 1 time, but did really well, J did 2 times and did really well, and then of course A did about 8 times and wanted to stay the rest of the day! With that taking all of about 45 minutes, I asked how much it would cost to rent one of their private batting lanes and found out it was $20. While I didn't want to spend that much money for only a half hour, the guy running the place said we could do it for 45-60 minutes if people don't show up they start to fill up all the lanes. I got all the kids some quick hitting and throwing, but focused on using the time to let A practice pitching. The last time he pitched in a game was a long time ago, and I think his confidence was hurt a bit. Today though, he was pitching with reckless abandon and was doing amazingly. I put up some things to act as a batter and it didn't phase him a bit. I hope he can get another chance in a game and prove it was a fluke the last time.
At work lately it's been crazy. We're getting ready for the yearly fund drive in just a little over a month, and so now is when tensions start to get higher, patience shorter, and you start to try to find ways to stay out of everyone's way and get stuff done. With it being my fourth year doing this, I've got my part down pretty well, but there is so much to do that it's just hard to get it all done.
Well, I'd write more, but the battery is about to die and I'm tired. Have a great rest of the day all.
