I have finally gone ahead and gotten my CompTIA A+, IT Technician designation. I'm sure most of you have NO idea what that is or what it means. LUCKILY, CompTIA has this description on their website for you:
CompTIA A+ certification validates the latest skills needed by today's computer support professionals. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification recognized by major hardware and software vendors, distributors and resellers. CompTIA A+ ensures the right people have the right skills. While many of the essential skills are universal, there are additional skills required to support the needs of businesses.
Now you may be asking yourself..."Why would Erik get this certification? How does this help him?" The short answer, nothing really. HA! Seriously though, what this does for me is:
1. Gives me something to throw on the resume, right?! Need I say more?
2. It gets me a small increase in pay! Not much, but every little bit helps, right??? I got kids, y'all!
That's really the gist of it. What this certification tells employers is that I know hardware, software, and computer operating systems, and can troubleshoot any issues/errors that usually come with them. Nuff said.
What do I plan to do after this? To attain my CompTIA Net+ certification, which is to Network/Networking knowledge, that the A+ was to Hardware/Software knowledge. So, it tells employers that I have a good deal of knowledge about networks/networking. There are higher certifications that I will try for after I obtain my Net+, but I'll speak about those at a future date and time.
It was a tough two tests that I had to take, and I'm glad to have passed them on the first time, but wow am I glad to put them behind me! Now to enjoy the rest of the Christmas/Holiday season, and then start back up!
Thanks for all that knew and were praying for me during this. God bless!
