It's the end of Monday, and I'm at work. I took a longer lunch to go give blood/platelets/etc, and so I'm working to make up some of that time. After hearing about my bosses mother having to receive 5 pints of blood, and more probably after that, because they can't figure out why she's losing blood, it made me realize something. Those 5 pints are equal to five people coming in and donating blood, or one person five times. Think about that for a minute, people. You go to donate blood and they take a pint out. His mother went through five and they still will need to use more to help her live. I realized when I thought about that, that I need to help and give blood more. I have it, I'm relatively healthy, and one donation (they say) can help THREE people! And the benefits to yourself of donating blood...new, clean, fresh blood created by your body, new cells, new goodness to your body. Well sign me up, I said to myself. So, now I'm on the list to do it regularly and plan to do it. One of the other reasons that made it easier to go is that down here, when they do the finger-stick thing, the tool they have down here doesn't hurt AT ALL! I HATED getting my finger pricked. I could take shots, etc, but that stupid little finger prick hurt like all get out. Like I said though, this new thing they have doesn't hurt one bit, so it makes it easier. They took blood, platelets, and something else like "secondary blood cells" or something like that, and after leaving I prayed that God use my donation to help someone, if not multiple people, and thanked Him for letting us have tools like we do, and blood centers to help people get the blood they need.
After a couple hours I started getting woozy, chest felt tight, throat felt tight, and I felt like crap. I'm sure it's partly due to my out of shape body pumping more blood to replace the void. Part is probably because of all the stuff I have going on at work, and how I seem to live off coffee lately (I know this is big, but it usually doesn't do much to me other than make me awake). So, tonight, I'm going to make a healthy meal. I have some red cabbage I might make with a little cheese on it. I've already been told by Belinda though, to "not make her any of that stuff". HA! She doesn't know what she's missing.
