Sorry, the song "Seasons of Love" from Rent has been in my head for about a week now. What a great song. Probably my favorite from any musical I've seen. It's just got a catchy chorus, powerful lyrics, and a smooth delivery.
I watched part of Andre Agassi's last match yesterday and it got me to thinking about how that sport has just lost so much. We had all the greats when I was growing up, McEnroe, Connors, Courier, Becker, and the list goes on and on. They provided great matches, but their personalities were just as much fun to watch. Agassi was the last of that group and while I think 99% of the people wanted him to win yesterday, we all could see how much pain he was in and knew it just wasn't going to happen. He'll be missed. And I think that pretty much means I'm done watching tennis, even though I hardly ever watched it to begin with. God bless, Andre, and thanks for the Canon Rebel commercials. You truly were the badboy of tennis.
Well it's Labor Day, and for the first time in my life, I'm not getting together with any family. Mom and Steve are out of town, and B is working. It's kind of saddening, but at least I have the shorties with me. I'm going to do a traditional Labor Day at my house anyway. Gonna sit on the compy with some coffee to wake up, but then gonna bust out the grill and football/baseball games on tv, and just play all day! Fam, I miss you all, and hope you're having a great day without us.
On Saturday, Belinda and I went on a date. We haven't had any alone time for a long while, so I was super geeked about getting some 1on1 time. She said we get it every night after the kids go to bed, but not really. You don't get some freedom of not worrying about the kids, making sure they get to bed, etc. It was nice. We hit this Italian place called Johnny Carino's for dinner. It was pretty good. I've been there before, but decided to try something new, even though the first dish I had there was the BOMB! I got the fettucini alfredo. The food was decent this time, but I realized something. I think fettucini alfredo is the same at every place. I have never really had any alfredo that was different that any other place...heck, even any different than any boxed meal I've made. After that, we went and checked out the movie "Taladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby". It was definitely something we needed to see, because it was HILARIOUS! Easy "A" rating from both B and I. That movie will be added to the collection when it comes out. I still don't care for racing, but every time I see a racing movie like that it makes me want to watch a race. Still, I'd rather go to the dentist than sit through a whole race. It's just boring unless there is a wreck.
After reading A New Kind of Christian, I've felt myself becoming more postmodern-minded, and so when I came across this article's title I had to read it. Basically, the author is saying that our postmodern church is turning the world into secluded beings who would rather isolate themselves and talk through IM's/emails/etc, rather than be with people interacting. First of all, how is that because of postmodern people in the church? That's a societal tendency that we're going through now. It's not a church thing, it's a personal thing. It's so much easier to go that route, than to invest time in others. Unfortunately, we do it too much and will see the reprocussions for those of us who practice it.
Another article I ran across deals with how we need to protect our children against pornography on the 'net. I'm totally in agreement. It's so easy for our children to come across that crap on there. From MySpace, to Google searches, to any of the other countless ways a kid can accidentally come across that stuff, it's just too easy. For our own protection we should also consider more options to safeguard our computers. Webfilters are very cheap. I know we use one that is only $5 a month, through Promise Keepers, but there are a bunch out there. Unfortunately, while they stop 95% of the stuff you could come across, the porn industry is also working on ways to get around the filters that are out there. But don't be discouraged, because like virus programs, they are updated to block the new content asap. It's worth it if you care about your children.
Well, enought rambling. It's off to some more coffee drinking, some WoW, then to some family hanging out with the shorties!
God Bless,
E
