As I write this, my Chiefs just fumbled the ball a few yards from scoring and going ahead of our nemesis, the Denver Broncos...IN Denver. DANGIT! (waiting now) YES! The defense held the offense and they're punting! Good deal! The offense is looking good under Huard (the new QB), so here's to hoping they can pull it out and get Tony Dungy his first win! GO CHIEFS!
Yesterday, the Hawks beat the Cyclones! Sure, we had home field advantage, but still, in this series lately it doesn't matter. For some reason, the Cyclones have had the Hawks number, and it doesn't make sense. The reason the Cyclones seem to do well is that they get a good QB in there. The rest of the team is decent, but with Seneca Wallace a few years ago, and now Meyer, they've had some nice QB's. But Iowa has always had the better overall "team", and it showed again yesterday.
Oh...my...gosh...the Chiefs just fumbled again. Thank God they got the ball this time though. MAN!
It was a busy week for me at work, which is why I didn't get a chance to post for a while. The biggest news though...the Sheldon household is expecting our FOURTH addition! Yup, B is el prego! As of today she's around 7 weeks along. Please join me in praying that she has a smooth pregnancy. Also pray that she doesn't have some bad luck like a few other women we've known down here who've had to be on bed rest for a few months. I know we could get through anything, but prayers nonetheless. The way B told me about it was classic Belinda. She's been wanting to paint the downstairs main bathroom. I told her no because she has never been a good "taper". I told her I'd tape it, then let her paint it eventually. Anyway, she met me at the door and said "Remember how you said I couldn't paint the bathroom? Well, I decided to redecorate it." My immediate thoughts were "Great...how much did she spend." (Sweet...the Chiefs D held the Broncos again...they punted and we got it at the 20). She had me close my eyes, and then took me into the bathroom. When inside, she told me to open my eyes. I looked at the toilet, then down around, quick glances at the floor told me nothing new there. So then I look at the mirror and see (well, for some reason my pictures are not uploading...I'll post it later)...on the mirror she put pictures of A, J, and Braden as babies, a positive pregnancy test and words that said "Suprise! #4 on the way!" Man, my jaw hit the floor! I was NOT ready for that! We're excited and nervous, but feel extremely blessed. What I'm mostly heard from everyone we tell, is the passage from Psalm 127:3 Children are a gift from the Lord;they are a reward from him.4 Children born to a young manare like sharp arrows in a warrior’s hands.5 How happy is the man whose quiver is full of them! Amen!
The NFL season started last week, and with me picking up the new Madden NFL game for the PS2 a couple weeks ago, I figured I'd throw a tournament on the PS2 with a bunch of the guys in my church/fantasy football league. We had eight people come over. Ronnie, the young guy who helped us move into our house, ended up winning a close game in the championship, but he was dominant in all other games. Avery won his first game, and played really well when he lost to Ronnie in the semi-finals. I lost my first round game to the eventual runner-up, and then lost in the loser's bracket championship to the same guy. I have pics from that as well, but can't post them. Not sure what is up with Blogger today.
(AWESOME!!! CHIEFS PUNT IT TO THE 1 YARD LINE!!!)
Basketball started this past Monday. There are only four teams in the league we're in, and two of them are from my church. So, needless to say, this league doesn't mean anything and it's hard to get excited to play. We're going to look for a real league to play in now. There are a bunch of the guys who say there is a Y league we can get in, so we'll look to get into that if possible. Anyway, since we didn't know who was on each of our two teams, we basically played most people in both games just to get some extra play. In our first game, we lost by one point. In the second game, it was ATROCIOUS! We were all really tired, but that's no excuse. I took myself out five minutes into the first half, and no one would sub out until halftime. Score at half time...37-3...yes...you read that right...THREE!!! We were getting so slammed that it was just funny. Beginning of the second half, the same five were out there, and were getting the same result, so we switched in five new guys. When I went to post up, a few of the guys were already down there trying to post up. I guess they didn't see that I'm the biggest guy on the court? Anyway, so I stopped at the top of the key and was passed the ball. I figured the game was over, so just try to have fun. So I shot a three...and hit it! Next time down the court, same situation...same result! Two for two! I decided to call it quits and know that I'm 100% from outside this season! HA! The end result wasn't much better than the result of the first half. I don't even know what the final score was.
We watched a few movies that were pretty good. Mom came over and had a movie night with us on Friday. We watched "RV" starring Robin Williams, and it had us all laughing. "Akeelah an the bee" was our Saturday movie choice, and it was as good as I thought it would be. Check it out if you want to see a good movie. Today, with the Texans being the only early game on tv, and they were getting blown out, we popped in our last movie we had rented, "Poseidon". While the movie itself was pretty easy to figure out, the special effects were really good, and just imagining something like that happening was freaky. At least I'll know how to save my family if a rogue wave hits the cruise ship we're in.
Right now, the whole fam is out doing other things, and so it's quiet and peaceful in the house. B and Braden are napping, and A & J are at a neighbor kid's house playing. It's nice. I miss the fall weather Iowa is having now, but I love it being quiet, the house picked up, football on tv, and not having anything going on.
This week I'm heading to Dallas for a meeting on Wednesday and Thursday. I get my own room, so that's nice. I'm going to bring my bible and get some reading in. I've been wanting a retreat of some kind to just get out and get back in focus with God. I've been so busy lately that I just haven't made Him first like I need to. Right now we're reading "The Power of a Praying Parent" for our bible study, and it's really gotten me thinking about how even though I pray for my children, I don't do it enough, and I don't do it earnestly. If you need help on praying for your child(ren), get this book! Get the study guide too. It really opens your eyes. There IS power in prayer, and if you don't believe it but call yourself a Christian, you're missing out. God wants to hear from us, and He WILL answer us if we honestly seek Him. God bless you all, and have a great week!
I have the most amazing wife!
