Finally getting in and settling down...10pm. My pinched nerve is acting up big time...again. This thing is driving me NUTS! Usually it's just intense pain that shoots from my right hip to my right foot, and from the my hip to the base of my neck. Well, from time to time lately, my right hip area is radiating a feeling of extreme tiredness. I don't know how to further explain it other than my right hip area feels like I've ran a marathon, whereas the rest of my body feels just fine. I don't understand it.
Can Google make anything bad? I don't think so. The only thing they need now is an Operating System for a computer and they'd be done. Since they have more money than they know what to do with, they don't need it to make any more money, but still...they could partner with someone and make it that much more awesome like they do with anything else they touch.
Speaking of Operating Systems, I'm leaning more and more away from Windows. The only reason there are no viruses for Macs, is because there are only 5% of "computers" that are Macs in the market nowadays. Why would you write a major virus for a small market. Affect the masses = write one for a Windows pc. Do I hate Windows, no. I hate worrying so much about pc security though. That's inevitable though, but still. Anyway, I've been looking at Mac pc's, as well as the Linux Operating System "Ubuntu". Ubuntu is a version of the Operating System "Linux", that has grown a huge following, and is very similar to Windows. Right now, I've been playing with it in a Virtual PC window. Virtual PC is a program Microsoft put out where you can run a program or application in a window, and it's contained and "running" in that window only. It doesn't touch any of the files on your pc. It's nice for cases such as testing things like this. I really like Ubuntu so far, and if I can get it to run right, we're going to look at implementing it at work for some volunteer workstations. That way they can have a pc that will run fast, but doesn't need anything big to run it since Ubuntu doesn't need much.
Sharathon is the thing that is occupying all of our time at work right now. That said, it seems that now I'm also being pulled in so many other directions because of things popping up that if I had hair, I would be close to pulling it out. Today, my dumb project was replacing the rats nest of cables at the tables we set up for people to put in pledges. Taking 6 to 9 foot power cables and only using 3 foot cables. Did it make that much of a difference....no. Not at all, but it wasn't my call, so whatever. I couldn't wait to get home after that mind-numbing project. Like I told B, whenever anyone gets home from work, we're all tired and super glad to be home...so much that you feel a sense of relaxation when you walk in the door. Lately, when I get home though, it's like I feel this feeling of "OH MY GOSH, IT'S SO GOOD TO BE HOME!!!" Good news at work, through this busy time this week, we're trying a new coffee "machine" from a company called "Flavia" , and we have all the flavors they offer, so my caffeine fix is GOOD TO GO for a few days. Hopefully we'll sign up for their services permanently. The three coffees I tried were good. I'd say that I liked 2 out of the 3 concoctions I made. The Columbian offered up a great Starbuckesh-type flavor that made me give it an A-. The Milky Way Latte (YES, I said MILKY WAY LATTE) was really chocolaty-carmally-ish (almost too much, but very good coffee with a strong cocoa flavor), that made me give it a B-. The one that went in the tank was the French Vanilla Latte. I'm not positive I made it the right way, so I might make it again tomorrow to test it's flavor out.
Cubs WIN! Just saw they beat the Astros. I hate to root against the 'Stros, but I gotta root for my Cubbies. Speaking of "my teams", I forgot to mention a couple cool things. The Magic losing out on getting Donovan from Florida, but then pulling one of the biggest saves of all time in landing Stan Van Gundy! Giddyup!!! I first heard they were getting a "Van Gundy" and was PRAYING it wasn't Stan's brother Jeff. Thank you, God! And then to mention the best news about "my teams"...I forgot to mention that Belinda got "us" the best gift of all time...tickets to see the Chiefs when they come down to play the Texans this season! And she even got two tickets to see the Texans play the Broncos on a nationally televised Thursday game! How sweet is that?! I get to root for my Chiefs one game, root against the Broncos and for my new home town team the next, AND I get to tailgate for both!!! WOOOOO HOOOOO!!! I told B we need to get some friends to just come hang out before the game and tailgate with us! Never done it, but sounds and looks awesome!
There are so many things going on in the world of technology that it's impossible to keep up. So much so that I feel like I'm having a hard time keeping my head above water. I work when I'm at work, but at home I don't research new technology and stuff like other IT folk do. SO, I have decided to start listening to some tech podcasts while I workout, drive, etc. There are so many other things I feel I should be doing, since we have so many responsibilities at work. Programming, Networking, System Development, Server maintenence, Virus/Spam/Malware administration, Storage Admin, Windows Media servers, Exchange Admin, Third Party Software admin, etc, etc, etc, not to mention all the audio apps and audio engineering responsibilities we have. It's amazing what they expect us to do. There aren't enough hours in the day. Do I love my job still, oh my gosh yes, but I'm just so overwhelmed at times. I don't know how Brent isn't.
Oh well, time to listen to some podcasts and learn up, but first watch this great video!
Peeeeeeeaaaaaaaace,
E
