Monday Morning Coffeetalk

Bugh! Update on my back. I’m on three different meds for it. As well as two more for my post nasal drip. I have been coughing for years and my dentist said that I should consult my doctor about it, and sure enough, these meds I’m on are working wonders. The meds for my back are making me tired as all get out. I’m chugging coffee to counteract the effects of sleepiness. The dr is putting me on these meds for a week, and wants me to come in and get a back treatment (kind of like electic-shock therapy) four to five times this week. If I’m still having issues after that, then he’s going to refer me to the pain center and maybe get a shot in my back, as well as get another MRI on my back and look at back surgery if still having that much pain. My leg has given me fits for years. Well, let me rephrase that…my back has given me fits for years, but it doesn’t do that much to me except for in the morning. Once it loosens up, I’m good to go. Usually a couple times a year my slipped disks will pinch my psiatic nerve, causing extreme pain down my right leg and up to the base of my skull, but the latest bout of the pinched nerve has lasted almost two months. I was going to get it checked out this week, but on Saturday morning I could barely walk, so I decided to go in on Saturday and get it checked out. We’ve got a huge softball game this Saturday at the Wrigley Field replica park at the softball complex “Field of Dreams” down here, that I HAVE (and WILL) play at. So I’m praying that these meds keep doing what they’re doing, and helping my back stabilize and de”flame” around that area. B gets to play this Saturday too, so I can’t wait to play softball with her again! We had so much fun playing together back in Iowa, and I’m so glad we get to play sports together again. And then on Sunday, our church softball team starts up too, so I’m just praying my back issues calm down before then.

With it being summer, of course there’s nothing much to watch on tv. The good thing though, is that a lot of the stations start putting on a few new shows to see how they’d do, and my favorite right now is “Pirate Master”. What a cool concept. If you haven’t seen it, it’s basically “Survivor” but the contestants are all “pirates” and are vying to be the last one on the show, which entitles them to some “real” pirate treasure (gold, etc). I missed the first episode, so I’m not sure if this is all real, or if they are just pretending and the gold is something they made for the game? Still though, to be a pirate, sail on a ship, learn how to hoist the main sails, etc, would be such a blast! Ever since “Pirates of the Caribbean” came out I’ve been infatuated with the pirate lifestyle. YARRRRR!!!

Gaming has been lulled lately because I’ve been so busy with everything else. I’m playing five games when I get a chance.

1. “Sid Meier’s Pirates!” currently I’m the #2 pirate on the game, so only one more pirate to dismiss and I’ll be elite. It’s a blast to do sea battles, and then to board the other ship and swashbuckle the other captain
2. “Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars” the game is just beautiful graphically and with the real actors that do mini-movies between battles make this a sweet game to add to your collection
3. “Starcraft”, so I can learn the story of the first game before the second one comes out next year
4. “Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth”, it’s so fun to control Gandolf, Legolas, etc, that it’s hard to critique that the games storyline is so dense that you only would really know what’s going on and why, if you had seen the movies.
5. “Tiger Woods Golf: ‘06” to keep my golf game up to date! I’m almost on the PGA tour after winning all but one tourney so far. If only I could do that well in real life! ;)

On Thursday it’s A’s birthday. We’re taking him and some friends to this place where they have tons of those blowup things kids play and climb on. After that, we’re taking all the kids to the pool for some water fun. Should be a good time for him. Then after that we’re dropping the kids off and coming home to play the new Nintendo Wii we got him. Speaking of the Wii, I found a funny article yesterday about a guy who’s lost 10 lbs in two weeks from just playing the Wii! If I lose weight by playing a video game, then that further emphasizes why I went with that system over the others. Gets us off the couch, but we still get to play video games and have fun! B doesn’t seem to really care about the Wii, but she hasn’t played it yet. She will be hooked…just you watch! And I would even wager that you’ll see a blog post on her site after she plays it and gets hooked on the Wii-crack. When I hooked up the Wii at work to make sure it worked, the three people that were with me all were immediately hooked on it and had to get one. One ordered his that day from Wal-Mart.com, and the other is looking to buy one on eBay when she gets time to sit with me and let me bid on it for her. The only downside of the Wii that I’ve seen so far, is how many add-ons there are for it. Sure, you don’t need all of them, but to have them only increases the Wiiexperience. Another cool thing about the Wii is how you can hook up to Nintendo’s online site, and download any of the old Nintendo titles! I can’t wait to play Metroid, Zelda, Starfox, etc, again! Do any of you have a Wii? If so, let me know so we can play online!

The new “Transformers” movie comes out on Wednesday. The only toy besides GI Joe’s and video games that were my favorite things when I was a kid. They make them horribly cheap nowadays, but still, seeing them transform looks amazing when you see how they thought of making it like they did. The movie looks to be amazing, and I plan on seeing it, possibly with the fam, this week. If any of you go see it before I do, let me know what you thought about it.

Well, it’s 8:15am, and time for me to head into work. Got a bunch of “fun” things to do this week. Gotta figure out why a backup isn’t working for our main accounting server automatically, as well as look at a bunch of other things on all the other servers. Ugh!

Peace out all…have a great week and a safe 4th!
E
