Parent that is. B is safely back in Iowa for the weekend. She had the nerve to make the whole house wake up at 5am to take her to the airport, and leave us jealous that she's getting to see a lil' bit of home. All kidding aside, she went back to see her cousin Kim, who I've mentioned on here before. Kim has been kicking the crap out of cancer the past 5+ years, and is in the midst of yet another battle. She's heading in for her second bout of brain cancer removal surgery on Tuesday, and so B wanted to make sure she could get up there and spend some quality time...to let her know we're praying and know that God has brought her a mighty long way, and we're praying for even more miles and more miracles. Kim is one of my heroes and I don't know if she even knows it. The faith she displays to us through email, I'm sure doesn't even touch the faith she is displaying to her local community who have been there to help out, as well as her family. Her husband Rob is another hero of mine. The rock that I know he has been, would be a tough thing for anyone to go through as well. If you could all say some prayers for that family now and/or on Tuesday, I know they would appreciate them.
So, while B is up having a good time seeing family and friends up in the Orange City, IA area, I'm home with the shorties all weekend. I took today (Friday) off, to make sure I could be there for B in case she didn't get on any early flights (since she was on standby). Once we knew she was going to get to take one of the early flights, I got a few things done around the house, and then laid down with Braden and Evan and took a nap with them in our bed. THREE HOURS LATER, we all woke up and decided it was time for some Father/Son Chuck E Cheese time. We had just enough time to have some pizza, let dad score the high score in Skee-Ball, grab some goodies with our tickets, and then head to get Avery and Jaelyn. We got home, did some cleaning around the house, and then it was off to my Stepdad's first performance with his new band "Alien Highrise" at this new Christian club up north of Humble. I guess his new band is the new house band of the club, and will be playing a few times a month or so. They did a good job tonight. Their sound is old school rock, like a 70's feel. Very nostalgic. The crowd was around 200 or so, with about 80% being teenages/youth. They had a couple other bands who played earlier and were decent, a hip hop cat that had some nice skills, and then this one white kid who looked about 17, who did a poem that was just amazing. The thought process he was projecting blew me away, because I don't think I knew anyone that age who thought that deep. Talking about issues in the world today, how we have no morals on tv shows anymore and how no one cares, and how Christians need to step up. I don't give him justice at all. It seriously was one of the best poems I've ever heard. It was in the style of how the Def Jam or Def Comedy Jam poem show was (the name escapes me right now).
Tomorrow (Saturday), if it doesn't rain, Avery has a game, and a whole bunch of Steve's family are coming so A can show off, then Jaelyn has cheerleading for a game, then we'll come home for a few hours, then head off the David Crowder/Phil Wickham show at the Pavillion. I can't WAIT!!! That should make for a fast Saturday.
Sunday is a slow day for us, so I hope to knock out some laundry, maybe gain a few levels or grind some battlegrounds on WoW, and then call it a night.
Monday, we get our new cable from AT&T put in, with over 50 HD channels, and every HBO, Stars, Showtime, Cinemax, etc, channel that is on the market! I'm leaning towards removing all the movie channels and saving money. Even though they're free for the first couple months, and then greatly reduced for the first year, we have so many shows we record on the DVR, that we can't watch them all already. If you start adding hour and a half or more movies into the mix, my butt will turn into a couch cushion.
That leaves late Monday morning, when B should be getting back. Her dad said he'd get her to the airport (a 4+ hr drive) by 6am, so that she can have the best chance of getting back here earlier which I know I appreciate, since it hasn't been a day yet and we all miss her, but that will suck to wake up at 2am and drive that distance! Pray for safety, and for them to be awake enough to drive that distance! ;)
I hope you all have a great weekend. I'm going to try and enjoy this four day weekend, and am longing for the day when B gets back home, safe and sound.
Babe, if you read this, I love you!
It's 12:15am...gnight.
