It's 10:15am, and we just received word that we cannot stay here another night with normal business operations starting up tomorrow. While I'm a little upset at that, I understand, and am more just frustrated that I have to go back to no AC. :)
The days have been a blur here, since we've been here for over three days now, and haven't really slept well. I'm glad the kids seem to be doing well though, as they're playing and having fun. We have power here at the station, so we hooked up the Wii that Brent brought, and fired up some movies. We even got an antenna up to watch the NFL games a little yesterday, so that was nice. I'm tired though, and am hoping the weather will stay as nice as they say it is supposed to be the next few days. Mid 80's during the day and low 60's at night.
They're saying the power could be off for a few weeks. I'm praying for shorter...WAY shorter. I'm hoping God answers my prayers like he did a couple days ago. When I got back to the station on Saturday night, I had just returned from seeing my mom, Steve, and the kids, and they were super hot and tired from having no power just that day and a half. The station had been without power for about a day now, with only critical parts up and running to broadcast. The servers were getting overheated and parts were failing/frying left and right. With not knowing when I could really come get the kids and take them off their hands, I grew even more super frustrated than I already was, and so I just started praying on the way back to work. I prayed "God, I know that the power will come back on soon, but we need miracles here. If nothing else, please get the power back on at the station so that we can keep communicating out to people, but also to get other things back on and working, as well as the AC so we can relax a little during this time." I get back to work and see some lights dimly lit outside and think to myself "I don't remember those being on?" I went into the studio and asked the dj's that were on the air "did anything happen while I was gone?" They said no, but just then three other people ran into the studio and yelled "WE'VE GOT POWER!!!" Pretty sweet!
We have been blessed through this. The only thing wrong at home is that a few trees are toppled/leaning, our basketball hoop backboard was broken in half, and our front door lock is jammed with something, so it makes it hard to open. But all in all...the trees can be fixed, the backboard can be easily replaced, and the door lock still works, so our house is locked. It's about time to leave and go home, so I will not be able to post until I get back to work, or until my stupid cell phone towers come back up so I can twitter (again at www.twitter.com/esheldon76 ).
On an even brighter note, the Cubs' Carlos Zambrano threw a no-hitter against the Astros last night! And my fantasy football team looks to be poised to win again this week, maybe taking me to 2-0! :) Go Cubs and go Big E's Bombers!
Alright, talk to you later. Time to plan out my lunches and dinners with the kids. I'm glad I have a natural gas grill, stove and water heater so I can eat and shower and feel comfortable that way.
I read from someone yesterday and it put it into perspective. He said "the eye of a previous hurricane went over my house, and so did Ike. Life is too short, hug someone!" I agree. This is the second hurricane I've gone through since moving down here, and they're no joke. Life is precious, and it can be taken away in a moment, so...hug someone.
God bless you all. Count your blessings, everyone.
