Ups and downs of a sports fan - 9/21/08

If nothing else goes right in my other favorite sports teams seasons this year (and which is looks to be like nothing else will), the Chicago Cubs are the National League, Central Division Champs for the second year in a row! This season though looks to be way more promising than last year, since last year was more of a fluke, and this year they came into the season with higher expectations and goals of only a World Series crown being acceptable. What an amazing season it was this year, as we were able to take in a few games when they came to town, and seeing them win every time. My brother-in-law, Tanner, was actually at the game last night in Chicago when they actually clinched the title. What an experience I'm sure!  Any way, we had power just long enough to see the Cubs game last night, so that was sweet.  Thank you God for that little tidbit of power flowing through our electrical lines.

This is just pitiful.  The Chiefs are 0-3 after losing to the Atlanta Falcons this afternoon.  I never thought this would be a great season by any means, but was hoping for at least a .500 final outcome.  That looks to easily be falling away.  The way they are playing now, I hope they tank their season and get that McCoy kid out of U. of Texas or some other good QB that should be coming out this year.  I swear it seems like that's what they're trying to do.  "Just throw in the towel, kids, let's go for some good draft picks."  To make matters worse, the Denver Broncos are 2-0 and looking like they'll be 3-0 after today's game.  It's just pitiful.  It's like the Chiefs ticked off the football Gods.  It's like after Priest Holmes retired, the Gods decided to not give us any hope.

Our power has been on for the better portion of the last five days, meaning it was only off for a few days.  We have been more than blessed.  TV\Internet has been off for about a week though.  No complaining though, since we can always turn to DVD's for movies or the PS2/Wii/PC for gaming goodness.  Still though, not being able to check the news on tv, or watch any shows you've DVR'd sure has shown us how spoiled we are in today's day and age.  Again, no complaining here at all, just glad to see the tv\internet come in and out the last few days.  It would stay on for about an hour or so, then go back out, but yesterday it came on while I was hoping to see the Hawks.  I had just said how they're never on tv anymore nationally, and just as I said that, B turned to ESPN2 and there they were...playing the Pittsburgh Panthers!!!  We watched them summarily give up the game on offense, but their Defense was TOUGH!  Still though, just like the Chiefs...I don't know what happened, but we must have ticked off the football Gods.  Iowa finished in the top 7 for like four years in a row, have an amazing coach, but then all of a sudden couldn't draw in recruits.  Of course, being down here in H-town, we can't see the stuff that goes on like my peeps back home, and from what I've heard lately, the recruits they're bringing in are crapping on themselves and getting suspended or kicked off the team.  Ugh!  Stupid kids!  They have this awesome opportunity to play football at the collegiate level, possibly giving themselves a chance at the pros and they blow it away.
