Sunday Afternoon Grumblin's.

I swear that my sports teams are cursed. First of all the Iowa Hawks have a chance to send the game into OT with a last minute field goal, but do they do that? No, they try to go for it on 4th and 1, and instead of at least doing a QB sneak or rush it up the gut, they go to the outside and pitifully get tackled for a loss. The KC Chiefs who played great last week against rival Denver Broncos get beaten by 30+ points and get blanked in the process. Pitiful. That's not the worst part though. That belongs to the absolutely atrocious display the Chicago Cubs put up in this year's playoffs. Entering the series with the Dodgers, they had the best record in the National League, and looked to have no problems making it to the World Series. Well, I think they forgot that they have to actually win more games to get to the actual World Series! They got beaten down by the Dodgers and swept out of the playoffs in the first game. SWEPT! S-W-E-P-T! I am EMBARRASSED to be a Cubs fan right now. Losing is not the problem. Heck, getting swept isn't a problem. I give all respect to the LA Dodgers, as they played great. That STILL wasn't the problem. It was how bad the Cubs played. In game two, when they made THREE errors in one half inning, they looked like worse than a JV team, playing a pro team. The entire series was an embarrassment to the city of Chicago. There was no passion from any of the players. There was no emotion whatsoever. Once they lost that first game, they gave up. Not ONE time did you see anyone in the dugout trying to fire up the team. It was just sick. When Derek Lee struck out at the end of the second game and threw hit bat and helmet down in disgust at himself I about stood up and cheered, saying to myself "IT'S ABOUT FREAKING TIME YOU GET UPSET! IF YOU DON'T WANT TO WIN THIS SERIES, THEN GO HOME!!!" I'd rather see all bench players who want to get in there and win, than players who barely seem to care. Look at how the Dodgers reacted when they were getting runs. They were pumped up and wanting to pile on more! As a team who's losing, you need to do the same thing, but in the opposite way. Get pumped up and decide to shut them down. It was heart breaking to see how bad the Cubs D was when Zambrano was pitching. Everyone was saying how he could be the biggest liability to the Cubs because of his attitude, but he pitched amazing. He just had no D behind him. I can honestly rank this as possibly in the top 3 of worst postseason letdowns.

Okay, enough rambling about my joke of sports team decisions.

Today, after church, I took the kids to the Y so I could work out. Afterwards, I went to the gym and watched a little bit of a men's basketball league game going on. I noticed that one team only had four players, and then after a few minutes I saw that they were then only playing three? I asked one of the guys where his team was and he said that most were at the Texans game, and that their fourth guy just turned his ankle. Guess what, they still held on to the game and won it in overtime! 3 vs 5. Hilarious. Reminds me of the team that Stan and I played on in Urbandale. I think that we played a game against a team with only three players one time, and at least 2 or 3 games with only four players, and I believe we lost every game. Not a fun memory, but still, meeeeemooooriiiiiiiiies.

Tomorrow, I restart my basketball playing days. I'm a sub on a team at this church league I've played at since we moved down here. With me playing against Toby Mac and his band/crew when they come down here in December (in front of people, no less!), I want to make sure I get some ball in, so I don't embarrass myself too much. I'm excited to play, because I haven't since I've gotten in shape. Just gotta get my game back up and running now! Prayers I don't embarrass myself, or get hurt in the process. :)

Off to watch some more football and do some laundry. God bless and have a great Sunday as well!

I remember that! And it wasn't only once but TWICE we lost to a team where we had more players than them. That was SO sad
