Leeland Brown Bag report

Last night we had a brown bag concert sponsored by Chik-fil-A. The artist was a new up and coming group called "Leeland". I went out to help set up the broadcast portion, and then helped with the stage setup a little as well. They only had a few issues, but I got them resolved so no one in the listening audience noticed. This was the first time I was able to make it to one of our brown bag concerts, so it was cool to see what they were about. They are free events we put on with the help of Chik-fil-A. Basically we do all the advertising, they put up some money for the event and provide a location by one of their restaurants, and then we put up a big tent, chairs, stage, etc. The usual attendence varies, but last night I'd have to say there were close to 400 people or so. It was HUGE! Before they started I sat and talked with two of guys, Jake and Jeremiah (Jake is the first from L to R in the picture and plays bass, Jeremiah is the fourth from L to R and is lead guitar). It was great to hear these guys talk about how humbled and greatful they are that God has blessed them the way He has. The group basically went from a youth ministry team, to overnight sensation when Michael W Smith came across them and Leeland Mooring (middle in picture, and lead singer). A LOT of groups are coming to them and saying they will do whatever they can to help these guys in their ministry. I don't know many groups that are given that type of endorsement right out of the gate. They are great kids, and have a real unusual sound. Almost a "Coldplay-esque" feel to it. Definitely a good pickup and one to add to the collection. I'd rate their cd at about an "A-".
