Thanksgiving time.

Thanksgiving is my favorite meal of the year. Turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, and then all the other foods that people make for the occassion make this the best tasting shmorgesborg of the entire year. Every time Thanksgiving comes around, it just makes everything better. For one, the food. Nuff said. Secondly, seeing family/friends. Even if you see them year round, this time of the year it's just different. I can't put it into words. And then lastly, it's the beginning of the "holiday season". I love the holidays.

This year Belinda had to work on Thanksgiving day, so my mom decided to wait and have our family Thanksgiving meal on Saturday. I was bummed, but planned to make a small turkey, and do some side dishes myself, for me and the shorties. Not soon after though, Brent invited me to his place on Thanksgiving. He said it'd be some family and friends of his that I knew would be coming, and then some other people I don't know, but would welcome me and the shorties. I decided to accept the invitation. If for any other reason than because it'd be less work for me that day...HA! Seriously though, Brent and Robin are cool people, and the people I knew that would be there, I knew it would be a nice time, and it was. After gorging myself, we all adjourned to their main room and put on "Nacho Libre". I've seen the movie four times now and it just gets better and better. There are so many one-liners in there that I don't know how anyone can't love that movie.

I had to work on Friday, which was actually a positive thing. Sure, I'd love to have taken an extended weekend, but I knew that no one would be at work and so I decided to save some vacation days. Coming in also gave me some opportunities...it would either give me a day to take it easy and just be there in case anyone needed anything, or I could get on some projects without having to worry about being interrupted that often, if at all. I chose the earlier option. Brent and I just hung out, talked, got some CiCi's for lunch, brought a Starbucks to B at work (brownie POINTS), and then went back and hung out at work again. Okay, seriously though, at work, while it was low key, we did have a bunch of small issues to still deal with. I guess the only real downtime I'll get is when I take time off in a few weeks to hit Galveston with B.

Today, Saturday, we head to mom's for a Thanksgiving meal with them, and Steve's mother/father, and children. It'll be a packed house, that's for sure. B and I are bringing sweet potatoes (PUKE!), and this new creation that B had at work that some other nurse brought. It's watered chestnuts wrapped in bacon, then baked until the bacon is cooked. Put them into a crockpot with a mixture of ketchup, wocestershire sauce, some brown sugar, and some other things. Let it sit for an hour. It's a weird combo, but as with anything wrapped in bacon, it's pretty good.

Well, we're off for mom's. Let the 2nd feast BEGIN!!!

God bless,
E
