Server updating = quiet times

Thank you Belinda! FOR REALZ, YO!

It's 3:45am. I've been here at work, updating our servers since about 2am. This week we've got a guy coming in to help us secure our servers against hackers and the like, so we needed to make sure all of our servers were updated with the latest Microsoft patches. Since I've came to KSBJ I've made it a priority of mine to keep the servers up to date for the most part. I try to come in at least four times a year to get them updated. Since I come from the real business world, I have the same mentality about server downtime...if you have control of when it comes down, do it when the least amount of people are affected. So that means coming in overnight and doing what needs to be done then.

I don't mind coming overnight. In fact, I actually kind of like it being so quiet, peaceful, empty, and dark. My mind can just relax, even though I'm dog tired. You don't have a ton of people walking by your door. There's nothing going on besides the dj in the studio. In fact, tonight the dj is a newer part-time dj we hired recently, so I don't know her. That means she won't be hanging out and talking like the others usually do. Nothing wrong with talking to them, since they're all good people, but I just know that I won't be interrupted and can focus unless there is a problem. That makes the night even better to work in, today.

I totally forgot about coming in this morning. I forgot to set an alarm, and planned on sleeping until the normal time to get the kids up. I was even pumped for this week's morning ritual, since it's the kids' last week of school, so they're excited to get up, and the fact that we're heading back to the big I-O-W-A this Friday helps a little. It'll be nice to see family and friends in a week, and also knowing when we get back, that I get a break from taking kids to school for a while! YIPPEE!!! But a HUGE thanks to my baby, B, for just happening to check our schedule for the week and see that I was going in early today and working overnight and then my regular shift as well, so that I can take off Friday without having to use a vacation day. I HAD to get these updates done before the guy comes in later today, so she saved me BIG time. Thanks hon!
