Tuesday Morning Videos
Avery, warming up before his first ever pitching debut, in the "bullpen".
A - Warming up before his first pitching performance of his career! from Erik on Vimeo.
Avery strikes out the first batter he faces! Signs of what will be a promising pitching career! HA!

When I was at jury duty last week, I had to walk to the bus stop for my ride home. It was a long 10+ block walk in an area I wasn't super familiar with downtown. It gave me time to look around and see more that I'd like to come back for, like restaurants, pubs, jazz clubs, etc. I stumbled across the JPMorgan Chase Skyscraper that had been decimated by Hurricane Ike, and when I say "stumble across", I really mean it. I wasn't looking at any of the tall buildings, just the local store fronts and then next thing I know I look up and there I am, by it.

MORE COWBELL!!!
Here is the infamous video of us playing Rock Band after the hurricane, while we were sitting around waiting for power to come back up. Thank God for generators! The video isn't anything special, just some mindless goofing off, but I had some people say they wanted to see it, so here you go!

KSBJ Hope Line
Today we introduced a phone number for people to call if they need help finding water, ice, gas, shelter, food, etc. We're calling it the KSBJ "Hope Line". It's getting desperate down here, and I think the only reason it isn't worse is because the temperature has been FABULOUS! Low 80's during the day, low 60's during the night. This number, though, is to help people find what they need, or at least point them closer in that direction. Supplies get shipped in and are gone very soon after, so we just pray the people get what they need. There are many people who are disabled, who cannot fend for themselves, yet are still living by themselves and are trapped or cannot seek help. It's been very hard to hear those stories, but we then try to find some help and send it their way. I've been on our main phone line taking hundreds of calls since about 6am this morning, and it's been a humbling experience, since we are blessed to have power and at least running (although not drinkable) water at our house.
Brent and I have been manning this main phone, both of us on a microphone, but I have been running the sound board and using the computer to look up stuff, and Brent is sitting on another computer handling all the data requests. It's been crazy, but amazing. We've even been recording between calls and having fun with our own little morning show/podcast. People have been walking by and saying how hilarious we were and how we really need to have our own morning show. I wonder what that would be like? From what we've done today...HILARIOUS! :D I'll post some of it once we've cleaned it up. Might be a few days though, since we're busy with the "Hope Line".
Alright, just wanted to post quick and let everyone know that we are doing fine. We have tons of canned goods thanks to my awesome wife, and spirits are high! We have power and that's more than enough right now! The only downside to this whole Ike thing going for me right now is that I'm sure I have been gaining weight! I've been so tired from working long hours that I have no time or energy to work out. Ugh. Oh well, no worries!
God bless!

Ike Update - 9/12
I'm not sure how much I'll be able to blog, but keep checking back for updates. If you want to, you can also follow me on my twitter account at www.twitter.com/esheldon76 .
B just left for the hospital, and so now our time apart begins. I dont mind the being apart thing for the normal stuff in life, but I am dreading/hating this separation during the hurricane. For those that dont know, B and I are both "critical" staff in our companies. Her because obviously people cant just leave a hospital anytime they want, and because she might need to help in case disaster comes true. I, on the other hand, have to work because we are communications to the area and need to stay up as long as possible. When Rita hit, we were the most listened to station with NO comparrison. People listen to us for truth, love, and comfort, so we need to be there to show them God's love! The kids and dog will be staying with mom and Steve. This was a very hard decision for me, but I felt they could relax more at gma and gpa's house.
Hopefully this storm passes with no damage to us, and no issues to worry about, and everyone comes out safe. Please join me in praying for this hurricane to significantly weaken, and cause no issues.
Thank you, God Bless, and see you on the other side.
