Extracurricular Activites

Most of you know I’m a computer gamer. Okay, I’m a gamer in all things that game, but primarily I’m a pc gamer. I only play consoles (PS2, Xbox, etc) for the sports games, because they don’t seem to play anywhere near as fluid on a pc as they do on a console. With that being said, every other type of genre in gaming looks and plays WAY better on a pc if it’s rigged correctly.

I had stopped playing World of Warcraft for about two months or so, but signed back up to it because it’s just too much fun. Oh well, at least I saved us some money for a couple months. HA! Seriously though, I believe it has to be in the top five games of all time, if not the best. It’s just got too much to do. The only thing I’ll never be able to do on it though, is the end game content. Why? Because you need upwards of 40 guys, and a solid 6-10 hrs straight to do some of the stuff. That’s just insane, and the only part of the game that I cannot stand. Oh well though…thank God for the expansion pack that comes out in a month to give us more stuff to see, do, and experience in the World of Warcraft.

The other pc games that I’m into right now consist of Battlefield 2 (a modern combat first person shooter), Battlefield 2142 (which I prepurchased a while back and finally comes out Wednesday at noon) which is a futuristic first person shooter, and then Counter-Strike, the ever-faithful game that I can thank my cousin Trevor for getting me hooked on the day I got my computer. I still remember playing it for the first time. I remember him telling me I had to buy a game called “Half-Life”, not for the game itself, but for a mod I could download and play because of that game. The game was called “Counter-Strike”. Thank you Trevor. If only I had ¾ the skill you do. Oh wait…I would have that if I had the same amount of time to spend on games as you do. HA! j/k

On the console, as I previously stated, I’m only using it for sports games. Right now my current game of choice is “Madden ‘06”. The godfather, and supreme ruler of football games just seems to get better. I can’t wait to get a next-gen console to play sports games on, because they look AMAZING! Thinking back to where we started in video games with dots on a screen, to fully rendered, breathing, football players, just blows me away.

On another front, I’m thinking of picking up some comic books. Yes…comic books. I don’t want to subscribe to any of them, or get a ton, just one series that is going on right now in particular. Marvel has a series titled “Marvel Universe: Civil War”. Basically what is going on, is that all the Marvel comic characters are fighting it out, and classic heroes are actually DYING in the book. There is even rumor that Spider-Man could be dying soon. It’s just such a cool premise of having so many characters cross over into one comic book that makes this “still a kid at heart” remember when I used to collect comics as a kid, and all the fond memories I had of those few years when I did that. I think the show “Heroes” really was the deciding factor on if I was going to get this comic book series or not. Sure, most of you are thinking I’m a nerd and complete idiot for wanting to do something like this, but you just don’t understand most of this post. If you are a guy my age, gaming, comics, music, etc…it’s one of our generations “things”. I’m just glad my hobbies don’t cost me that much money.
