I totally forgot to post about the concert we went to last weekend. It was the "Wherever You Are" tour with Third Day, David Crowder*Band, and Hyperstatic Union. Belinda had to work, but I got a few extra tickets for my aunt and uncle, then also took the kids and my mom and Steve. We got there early so we could enjoy ourselves and get to our seats and not have to hurry. The seats we ended up having were way better than I thought they would be. They were actually just a section or two from the stage on the side. Great seats considering they were all comp'd besides the two extras I purchased.
When the concert first started, of course they bring out the newbie band, Hyperstatic Union. I didn't care to see these guys at all, because the single we play on our station is WEAK, but holy cow was I ever wrong! These guys were AMAZING!!! I immediately got their cd the next day, they were THAT good! The cd is up and down as far as what type of music they are. They range from soft to hard rock, and even to a bit of funk in some of their songs. I see big things for this band! The executive producer of their cd was Mac Powell (lead singer for Third Day), so it's nice to see he's got some talent there as well. The only downside to their performance was that they played LITERALLY 15 minutes and then got off stage. That sucked. Everyone was like "What?! KEEP PLAYING!" They ended with a rendition of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" that would have made the man himself proud!
Crowder was up next, and this was the main event of the night for me. I am not a HUGE Third Day fan, even though I do like them alot, but I was there that night to see Crowder. And boy did they ever rock the house! What a great worship band they are. I'd have to say they could be the best that is out there, and anyone that doubts me, I'd love to hear who's better? I have no more to say, except that I'm still blown away by the performance!
When Third Day hit the stage, the crowd went ballistic! Like I said, I like Third, but I wasn't there to really see them. They also, though, put on an amazing show and made me have to put their latest cd back into my rotation again. They need more live cd's, as that's where I feel they are their best. Like a Dave Matthews Band, David Crowder*Band, etc, they're good on cd, but REALLY good live. They played for an hour and a half, but easily could have kept playing for another hour or two and the crowd would have asked for more.
Overall, the concert was AMAZING, and definitely one of the top five shows I've ever been to. On the way home, I thought of all the artists I've seen in concert and how they all rack up. I've been blessed to see some of the best artists of our time, but it's funny how after becoming a Christian, it's not just about the music that's good, it's the lyrics that make a song even more powerful and truly a reason to listen. Here are the top five concerts I've ever been too in order:
5. Mercy Me - Christmas Tour (2005) - Yes...it was THAT good.
4. P.O.D., Pillar, and Co. (2006)
3. Third Day, David Crowder, Hyperstatic Union (2006)
2. Casting Crowns - Lifesong (2005)
1. DC Talk - Supernatural (1999)
Other notables: ZZ Top, Eric Clapton, Newsboys - three times, Men at Work (first concert I saw and they were GREAT, seriously!), and Petra (where I committed my life to Christ) among others.
