The epic first use of the golf clubs!

Saturday was filled with big highs and big lows. It started out with the lows...getting called in at 6:50am to work because a power surge knocked our internal network offline. Once getting into the station, I found out that the power was back, but the network was still down in parts, and our internet was down as well. After further review and phone calls made to our ISP carrier, I found out that someone hit a pole and tore some fiber lines, which would be resolved in 8+hrs. I also found out that one of our routers reset itself. So I spent the next 6hrs working on getting everything back up.

Then came the big highs...got to go golfing with Steve at 2:30pm at World Houston (at H&H Ranch). We had a blast laughing at each other, and every now and then would hit that shot that "would make you want to come back". Steve picked this course because it was a flat one, thinking it would be an easier one for us beginners. Once we got there and saw each of the holes we realized that it may be flatter, but it had a LOT of water hazards! The first three holes had decent ones to get over! HA! Yeah, I lost probably around 10-12 balls...half in the water, and half to my horrible slice. I pray for the souls that didn't see my slice coming at them like a scud missle! The round was pretty if you care about golf, but it was the first time I really got to get out and try my new set of clubs on an actual course so I knew it wouldn't be. Final result of the day, I beat Steve by one stroke...137 to 136...yes, I golfed a 136 on a 72 par course! ROTFLOL! It's all good though...I just wanted to take my score so I can see how I do over time. I received a free round for my birthday in a couple weeks so if I can get in there again, it'll be interesting to see how I do. I've only golfed about 7 courses, and only at Woodside in Iowa did I ever golf it more than once, so I have no basis to how I can do...with the right sized clubs to boot.

On to the shots that will bring me back:

1. I had to hit over some water on one of my shots (after losing a ball in the water the shot before and taking drop). I lined up to try and hit over some trees (as well as the 30ft patch of pond in front of me). I winded back and swung away, and instead of hitting it up into the air, I skipped it 10 times across the pond and onto the other side! LOL! No where close to the pin, but it went over the water nonetheless. The hole was a total loss, but it was a shot to remember.

2. I couldn't drive to save my life today, and my irons and putter were not that much better, but I had some amazing chip shots onto the greens! I am seeing how with as strong as I am, I can't just swing away all the time, and how I need to slow down and not try to muscle things all the time. I had some HORRIBLE chips as well, at times going back and forth OVER the greens, but I had three or four that were within 5 feet of the pin!

3. The best shot of the day. Both Steve and I agree on this. I believe it was around hole 8 or so. I was to the right of the fairway, using my 8 or 9 iron, trying to hit onto the green. I hit it WAY to the left, so I knew it was going to be even more ugly from where it landed, but it hit a tree and bounced to the right...ONTO THE GREEN, LANDING THREE FEET FROM THE HOLE!!! Yeah, I'll DEFINITELY be playing for a long while, just because of that shot! Thank you Lord! I know that was all you, helping me to lighten up and enjoy the day even more.

Tune back to further episodes to see how things progress in my golf game. ;)

God Bless,
E

Ha! I remember my first time ever golfing. I was 15 yrs old and golfing on a par 35 nine-hole course. I shot 127 for NINE holes!!! Counted every shot....had never picked up a golf club before.

Glad to hear you are enjoying golf...I still shoot in the 90s and love the sport! Played nine in Phoenix in Feb...shot 14 over for nine holes. Playing Copper Creek here on Thursday. You bringing your clubs back to IA with you?? Maybe we can hit a round while you are here.
