I don't think I'm in Texas anymore...

And that's because I'm in Ohio! I'm here for the week, taking a class called "Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices". It's a networking class for the "Cisco" brand of networking devices specifically. I was really nervous coming into this class, because the Cisco brand is known as the pinnacle of the networking world. Their devices are the best, and their certifications are hard to get. I am going to try and get the cert that is available for passing a test for this class at a later date, but just taking this class and learning what I am will help me on my resume! The class has been really interesting so far. Mostly going over the basics that I already know, but making some ideas concrete that may have been less than that previously. Initially, I thought the rest of the 20 students, besides Brent and I, would get this class easily after hearing what they do for a job, but after the first two days it's as if Brent and I and maybe only a couple others actually truly "get it". So far, the stuff isn't that hard. It's continually building on the stuff we already spoke about/learned. There are a few guys in the class that ask stupid...STUPID questions, and the teacher is starting to get ticked, because they aren't listening to what he's saying earlier because they're checking email, messing around on the computer, etc, and then asking questions about stuff that he mentioned earlier. One guy in particular, I don't know how he was allowed in this class, or how he felt he could understand the next four days after he couldn't figure out BASIC stuff the instructor went over the first day. While eating dinner, Brent and I decided that if these people are having THIS much trouble already, it's got to be because they don't really mess with, touch, or have touched networks in the past or current job roles. Still though, as I told him, it's not Rocket Science. Our instructor has explained some hard stuff REALLY easily. I wish he would have taught me the Microsoft classes I took that taught a few things we went over today that I just couldn't figure out even until now, until he worded it the way he did. Totally opened my eyes.

Tonight for dinner, after our second day of class and still barely getting any "lab" work, Brent and I went for a long walk outside in the cool evening. I know I personally needed to just get some movement instead of sitting all day, to help deal with the frustration of not much lab work yet, and the continual barrage of idiotic queries by the mentally handicapped individual in front of me in class. I also wanted to walk around outside so that I could soak up the weather, the smells of the "north", see other "north" sites, and especially to soak up all the colors on the trees. I really miss the fall. It's easily my favorite season. Yesterday, while trying to find a place to eat, we took a wrong turn, but I think God wanted us to go the way we did, because we came across a corn field that had already been harvested, thus leaving the rest of the stalks, and looking like a typical Iowa fall cornfield. I so wish I had a freaking camera so I could show you all!

So far, my nights have consisted of getting back to my room, some time webcam with B and the kids for a bit, grab some dinner, watch a little tv to rewind, and then to study and get ready for the next day's work. Tonight, the NBA season starts, so I've had that on in the background. The first game was with two teams I could care less about. The second one, Lakers/Rockets, isn't that much better, but I want to see how well Steve Francis does back with the Rockets. The hotel room we got is amazing. Both Brent and I have our own rooms, so I'm not sharing it with anyone. The bed and pillows are the softest, most comfortablest I've ever slept on. My back still has issues, so I'm waking up the same amount as if I was on my own bed, but I feel I'm sleeping better. I need to make sure I get the brand/model of them both, to look at getting for B and I. After I get done with this post though, I'm gonna hit the sack. Didn't get as far as I wanted to in my study tonight, but oh well. I need to get a decent night's sleep for once if I can help it.

I've been so busy trying to do everything that the last few days have FLOWN by, but at night is when I really miss B and the kids. I'm loving this bed, but I wish they were here with me. This room is HUGE, and so I have the room for them to all come and stay! I know we'll be looking for Homewood Suites wherever we go from now on...great rooms, good prices, free meals, and any immenity that you would normally need! If you haven't stayed at one, and are looking to need a hotel soon, give them a try. I know I'd recommend this one in Dublin, OH (just W/NW of Columbus), a 5 out of 5 stars!

The only thing I haven't liked so far about Ohio is all the Ohio State fans wearing their shirts, and having all the OSU propaganda all over town, stores, gas stations, etc, and every where else. On Friday, I'm wearing my Iowa Hawks shirt proudly wherever we go! GO HAWKS!!! HA!

Alright, I'm going to bed. G'night all!
